Excellent initial hooking and holding power.
Particularly effective with inactive fish and shallow bites. The calculated straight-point angle balances initial engagement with penetration as the fish turns. Wire diameter is selected for each size to handle yellowtail, kingfish, amberjack and large grouper with either forceful or controlled fighting styles. The round bend distributes load, while selective forging preserves a round heel to reduce tearing and strengthens the rest of the hook. A spade end reduces weight. Compared with Vertical Light, it has a slightly shorter shank, a more open point angle and improved retention. Sizes 6/0 and 7/0 feature a flat shank to prevent assist-line slippage.
